Set to lose one its biggest stars before the end of the year, and slammed by one of its previous most popular ones, Eastenders is going to try to win back its ailing audience with shock measures - by showing the sexiest scene ever shown in a prime time soap opera.

Kat and Alfie, played by Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie, are set to replicate the sexy table-top scene from The Postman Always Rings Twice - and the BBC has admitted it’s just to cause controversy: “We want to make it as steamy and realistic as we can. We put this red-hot storyline in to get people talking about the show again. We’ve not had the best 12 months and we are going to go for it.”

Given the session is going to happen on a kitchen table, we’re just glad that they’re mimicing that film and not the infamous buttery one from Last Tango in Paris…
