Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson
Once again last night, I trekked down to join the screaming masses in Leicester Square for a summer blockbuster premiere. This time, walking up the unusual-pale-blue-instead-of-red carpet, were the cast and hangers-on of The Island, including stars Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson.

Scarlett Johansson

The colour white has featured prominently in the publicity for the film and all the people milling around looked like they had just stepped out of a washing powder commercial. Scarlett, sensibly, didn’t go for the brilliant white option - really, that sort of colour is only flattering for about five people in the entire world and I don’t know if Miss Johansson, gorgeous as she is, is one of those people.

Still favouring the 1950s screen starlet look, Scarlett looked lovely in a very slightly bluey-silver silk dress - although the bow on the back was a little collapsed for my liking. Her hair also looked a bit odd: a bit too uniform in colour and too preened - the more tassled hair she had for the New York premiere was far nicer and more flattering.

Ewan McGregor
Ewan went for a more casual look, a black jacket slung over a white linen (so creased as anything) grandfather-collar shirt. It might have been the intention, but it looked like he had just escaped from a hospital and mugged a concert pianist for a “disguise”. He’s a perfect example of that brilliant white not suiting many people rule: his skin and hair looked, well, a peculiar colour.

Guests included Djimon Hounsou from Gladiator, Lennox Lewis, Ken Livingstone and the requisite girls with nothing better to do with their time: such as former Eurovision hopeful Javine who tried to fit in with the white clothes theme - but showed more skin than clothes. She was outdressed and outclassed by another on-the-edge pop star though, former Hearsay member, Myleene Klass. I’m not particularly a fan but thought she looked fit and healthy in an adorable, swishy, royal blue summer dress: I’m seriously coverting it right now.
