Jessica Simpson: Knoxville rumours were “cruel”

Nick Lachey has been talking quite openly about the breakdown of his marriage but Jessica Simpson has stayed quiet up until now.

Speaking to US Weekly, she’s revealed that rumours that she was having an affair with her Dukes of Hazzardco-star Johnny Knoxville were particularly damaging:

“It’s so cruel and I just try not to let it affect me, whatever everybody was thinking about me. If I did, I don’t think I’d be here now.”

“I can’t save anything from being talked about because then it becomes this game, and it’s not a fun game. I feel like everybody’s always out to get me, and that’s a weird feeling.”

She also revealed that she was keen to maintain the illusion of a perfect relationship even when things started to go sour with Nick.

“I never wanted to let anybody down.”

“But then you just have to realise that if you’re not happy, you can’t make anybody else happy.”

“When you walk away and there’s no gravitational pull, then you know you’re doing the right thing.”
