Oscars 2006: Philip Seymour Hoffman forgets girlfriend in speech
Philip Seymour Hoffman followed Hilary Swank down the “forgetting to thank your partner when accepting your Best Acting Oscar” path. Philip praised his mum at great length but forgot to thank girlfriend Mimi O’Donnell.
Hilary, who forgot to mention her husband Chad Lowe when she picked up her Oscar for Boys Don’t Cry in 2000, comforted Philip: “Oh, I know [how it feels]. No one forgot like I forgot. But people will understand, they really will. You can’t kick yourself over it.”
Of course, Hilary did make up for it when she picked up her second Best Actress Oscar last year - so it’s down to Philip to get another so he can get it right next time.
Reese Witherspoon went with an entirely different route in her acceptance speech though: “Every time I got dumped, I always fantasised that one day he would be sorry - and I would go on stage and tell him what I thought.”
“So for all the boys who ever dumped me, this is for you.”
