V for Vendetta’s London premiere
Last night saw the London premiere of Natalie Portman’s new film V for Vendetta.
Most of the cast - including Stephen Rea, John Hurt and Stephen Fry - put in an appearance as well as Natalie and it all turned into a bit of a mutual lovey praise-athon.
Stephen Fry was very impressed with his young co-star: “I’m immensely impressed by Natalie. I mean, what is she, 12 and a half years old or something?
“She’s a barely divided embryo and yet she speaks multiple languages, is immensely accomplished and a natural film actress.”
“She’s very bright and good natured. She’s quite something. She’s going to be at the top of her profession for a long time.”
Meanwhile Natalie herself spent time gushing about Hugo Weaving, who couldn’t attend the premiere due to stage commitments: “Hugo is just such an amazing actor. It was an honour to work with him.”
The film’s director James McTeigue also piled on the Hugo-love: “From the moment Hugo put the [character’s] mask on, we knew it would work. He has a theatre background, which is important to the character.”
“He also has a great physicality and a fantastic voice.”
The film will be released in the UK on 17 March so we can all see if all the gushing was worth it…
