Gavin Henson’s two hour pre-match beauty session

While we’re grateful that British sportsmen have gone beyond the curly mullets of their 1970s counterparts, we can’t help feeling that some of them have gone a little far the other way. Rugby star Gavin Henson has revealed an extensive pre-match beauty regime that makes even our over-the-top going-out preparations look slack!

“It takes two hours to get ready - hot bath, shave my legs and face, moisturise, put fake tan on and do my hair - which takes a bit of time,” he admitted on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross this week.

“I need my fellow players to say I’m looking good, I need it for my confidence. It gives you a boost.”

While most men would need a bit of help, particularly around those awkward ankles, Gavin prefers to go it alone, without the aid of girlfriend Charlotte Church : “I don’t want Charlotte to do my legs, she can concentrate on her own.”
