Graham CoxonFormer Blur guitarist Graham Coxon has attacked his former bandmates for not helping him with his drinking problem.

“I was an alcoholic mess and not able to fulfil my obligations.”

“The rest of the band could have stood back and seen I was having a terrible time. They could have tried to help. It raises the question of how responsible we felt for each other.”

Even when he sought treatment for his problems, the band didn’t go out of their way to support him.

“I was in the Priory and Blur went ahead and started recording you know … it was just a decision they made.”

However, Coxon doesn’t regret leaving the band.

“We started turning into some kind of pompous, bloated, anthemic bullsh*t thing.”

“I simply did as I was told. I spent too long putting my dignity on the back-burner for the sake of advancing the band’s position.”

“[Now] I’m sort of like my own boss and I can sort of play when I want, record when I want, write when I want and I don’t have to do anything that I don’t wanna do.

“I still think I did the right thing, I still think myself and my daughter comes first.”
