Tom Cruise and Katie HolmesYes, it’s finally happened: Katie Holmes has finally given birth to her first child with Tom Cruise.

Their daughter, named Suri, was born on Tuesday in an “LA-area hospital”, according to People magazine and weighed 7lbs 7oz on arrival.

In a statement issued on behalf of the new parents, they have “joyously welcomed” the arrival and “both mother and daughter are doing well.”

The spokesperson for the couple also explained the origins of baby Suri’s name: it has meanings in Hebrew and Persian, meaning “princess” and “red rose” respectively.
