Pete Doherty to have chemical implants to try to beat drugs
Pete Doherty has told his supervising judge that he is to have a chemical implant inserted to help him beat his drug addiction.
After admitting to numerous drugs charges earlier in the year, Pete is having his progress monitored by the magistrates court and has to undergo regular tests to monitor his drug use: all of which so far have shown continued drug use.
Pete hoped his most recent test would be negative but it wasn’t: “maybe next time ’round,” he said.
Judge Jane McIvor told Pete that she is pleased with his progress: “you are going in the right direction. It’s not easy, especially in your circumstances. I appreciate that entirely. I think your concentration should be, within six months of the order, to get a negative test.”
Pete has said he hopes he will have the implants fitted within a fortnight: they will release a drug which counteracts with opiates to prevent any “high” sensation.
His case will be reviewed again in September.
