Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley's weddingIt was a weekend for weddings this weekend: first, Cheryl Tweedy and Ashley Cole walked down the aisle on Friday then Avril Lavigne married Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley on Saturday*.

After dating for two years, Avril and Deryck tied the knot on Saturday in traditional ceremony in front of 110 guests in Montecito, California.

Avril wore an ivory Vera Wang wedding gown and walked down the aisle to Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March”. The couple had a brief, 20-minute ceremony on the private Villa Lilybelle estate before holding a reception in a marquee in the grounds.

The bridesmaids also wore Vera Wang dresses, in petal pink crepe chiffon, while Deryck and his groomsmen wore tuxedos from the Hugo collection by Hugo Boss.

Avril changed into a second ivory Vera Wang dress, this time a Chantilly lace gown, for the reception and for the couple’s ‘first dance’ to ‘Iris’ by the Goo Goo Dolls.

According to a guest quoted in Us Weekly, “Avril looked beautiful. Her hair was very bright blonde. Her dress was simple, but elegant.”

The couple were originally scheduled to marry in August but are rumoured to have brought the date forward to avoid undue media attention on the day.
