Alex CurranWAG Alex Curran has been arrested on suspicion of assault after an argument at a Chinese restaurant in Liverpool.

Alex, fiance of the Liverpool and England star Steven Gerrard, got in a scuffle with Michelle Dures in the karaoke bar of the Shangri-La restaurant in the early hours of Saturday morning but sources differ over whether it was an attack with a bottle or just a defensive maneouvre with her handbag that went wrong.

One source revealed: “[Alex] denied bottling the girl, but she told an officer she thought she may have accidentally caught her in the face with her big handbag. It was taken away to be examined.”

However, a friend of Michelle said: “It was horrible. We were just having a meal after a night out and there was a fight in the restaurant. My mate stood up and started screaming for them to stop fighting and one of the blokes came over to her and was really abusive. He was swearing and ranting and knocked her bag off the table. A couple of seconds later someone came over and shoved a bottle in her face.”

A Merseyside police spokesperson said that Michelle suffered from “severe bruising and swelling” and added “it’s believed there was a group of about five men and women involved. A 23-year-old woman from Formby was arrested on suspicion of assault and later released on bail.”

When Alex and Steven were contacted at their Formby home for a comment, Alex’s spokesperson said: “This is now a matter for police and we can’t comment further.”

Alex and Steven have two children together and are expected to marry next year.
