Nick Lachey surprised by Newlyweds phenomenon

Nick Lachey has revealed he didn’t expect Newlyweds, his reality TV show with then wife Jessica Simpson, to be the phenomenon that it was.

He told the Sydney Morning Herald: “[Jessica] and I decided to use the show as a promotional vehicle for our albums, you know with MTV, who we’d worked with for years.”

“It was supposed to be six episodes to promote our records, then it turned into this whole other thing.”

“So you know, you just don’t know where life’s going to take you … you can try and plan it out as best you can, and it absolutely makes no difference - it can turn out completely different.”

The amount of interest in the break-up of their marriage has surprised him too - but he’s hoping that will die down soon: “I can already hopefully feel it starting to go away. I think there’s some closure there for she and I, hopefully the rest of the world will find some closure along with us.”

“I certainly understand the interest and appreciate all the support and what-not. But life goes on and I think it’s only a matter of time before everyone moves on as well, so I’m not worried about that.”
