The private coroner hired by Anna Nicole Smith to carry out a second autopsy on her son Daniel Smith has not been able to establish a cause of death but has ordered further tests.

Cyril Wecht was hired after Bahamian pathologists were unable to identify the cause but both parties have ruled out “natural” causes such heart disease, strokes or “congenital anomaly”.

After carrying out the procedure, Wecht told reporters: “I [did]n’t find anything that would cause me to believe there is something in terms of some traumatic injury that was inflicted, or somebody having done something to him in some cryptic manner that could not be observed.”

The Bahamian coroners office is waiting for the return of toxicology results and Wecht has ordered his own tests and sent additional samples to the US to be for further assessment.

Following the second autopsy, Daniel’s body was taken to a Nassau funeral home for preparation to return to California. He is expected to be buried early next week with an inquest into his death scheduled to take place next month.

Daniel died last Sunday while visiting his mother Anna Nicole and his new baby sister, Dannielynne, in hospital in the Bahamas.
