The presumed father of Anna Nicole Smith’s newborn daughter is considering challenging her for custody if he thinks Anna Nicole is struggling with motherhood, particularly in the aftermath of her son Daniel’s death.

Anna Nicole has refused to name the baby’s father but Larry Birkhead, who had a two year off-and-on relationship with Anna Nicole until May this year, believes 10-day-old baby Dannielynne is his daughter and is prepared to take a paternity test to prove it.

He said recently: “I’ll do everything possible to become a part of the child’s life and if this is too much for Anna to handle I might have to step in and be both parents.”

“I’m worried about her because she lost her son and that is tragic and that’s something that I can’t make sense of.

“I’m worried also that now that she has experienced such a loss that possibly she can’t be the mother that she needs to be… I’m ready, I’m willing, I’m able to take care of a child, to be a father.”
