Badly Drawn Boy: Joe Strummer was a humbling inspiration
Badly Drawn Boy’s Damon Gough has revealed he learnt not to let stardom go to his head when he met Clash legend Joe Strummer.
The Clash were an inspiration to Damon while he was growing up and the two met in 2000, before Joe died in 2002.
Damon told Time Out magazine: “I met him at the Q awards in 2000, when he received the Lifetime Achievement Award.”
“He was so nice to me, and said he was proud of me for making good music. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
“He was so gracious accepting his award [too] and just said, ‘This is great, thanks for that.’
“It taught me a valuable lesson.”
