Jessica Simpson, proud of sister Ashlee but otherwise depressed

Jessica Simpson has revealed she burst into tears when she saw her sister’s debut West End performance.

Ashlee Simpson’s five week stint as Roxie Hart in Chicago started on Monday and big sister Jessica was in the audience.

She told BBC Radio 1: “I was weeping. I was so proud. I couldn’t be more proud of her. My face is swollen, I have butterflies, and she pulled it off perfectly.”

But Jessica didn’t have as much fun at the after-show party. The family and Ashlee’s castmates celebrated the performance at the Sound Bar but Jessica stormed out after only a short while at the party, reportedly shouting: “I don’t want to be here - why won’t people just leave me alone?”

Their dad Joe explained: “Jess is quite down at the moment. She’s not comfortable talking to people as she’s quite depressed and we’re walking on eggshells.”
