David and Victoria Beckham are planning to move their family to the US, according to a report in today’s People newspaper.

The couple were rumoured to be looking for a Los Angeles home in July but according to the newspaper, they are now looking for a base in the Hamptons on the East Coast and are already looking at schools in the area for their three sons.

A friend of the family told the paper: “They have set their sights on becoming American idols. Both are determined to make their dreams come true over in the States.”

“David has made no secret of his love for America and is keen to become the face of soccer over there once his time with Real Madrid is over.”

“No one is expecting Becks to walk out of Real Madrid in January … Ideally he would probably want another two seasons in Europe but even if advisers do secure him a new contract the truth is that his bid to crack America has already begun.”

“The plan is to turn him into a Captain America type figure. Becks’s superstar status is very real.”

Similarly, Victoria has commented in the past about wanting to spend more time in the country because “there are so many great opportunities.”

She is reportedly working with former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller to develop a fashion reality tv show, with Fuller claiming to already have expressions of interest from a number of US networks: “It will be more serious than a reality show but will be entertaining because Victoria is so funny.”

Friend Tom Cruise is also reportedly developing a biopic project about David which would publicise Brand Beckham even further.

A spokesperson for the couple refused to confirm the rumours but added a move to the US “cannot be ruled out. There has always been interest in David from the States.”
