Robin Williams has revealed it was Mel Gibson’s arrest for drinking driving and subsequent seeking of help for his alcoholism that encouraged Robin to seek help for his own alcohol problem.

Robin described Mel’s arrest to Access Hollywood as “a big wake-up call”: “Well, if [rehab] was good enough for him, I’ll go. If you’re violating your standards faster than you can lower them, [it’s] time to go away.”

Robin entered rehab in July and is currently living with a teetotal friend in Los Angeles.
