Keith Urban has voluntarily checked himself into a rehab clinic to fight alcoholism this week, with new wife Nicole Kidman by his side.

Keith is thought to have admitted himself into a residential program at Cumberland Heights clinic, near their home in Nashville, Tennessee, with Nicole attending the clinic regularly as part of the family therapy programme.

In the statement issued on Friday, Keith said: “I deeply regret the hurt this has caused Nicole and the ones that love and support me.”

“One can never let one’s guard down on recovery and I’m afraid that I have.”

“With the strength and unwavering support I am blessed to have from my wife, family and friends, I am determined and resolved to a positive outcome.”

Keith and Nicole were rumoured to have signed a pre-nuptial agreement before their marriage in June specifying that Keith would waive his yearly income for being Mr Nicole Kidman (thought to be worth around £350,000 a year) if he was found to be using illegal drugs or drinking alcohol to excess. Keith had previously been through rehabilitation for a cocaine addiction in 1998.

Keith’s new album, “Love, Pain, & the whole crazy thing”, is due to be released next month but all his immediate promotional appearances have now been cancelled.
