Britney SpearsThe papers filed for the divorce of Britney Spears from Kevin Federline have revealed the couple didn’t marry when they claim they did.

Britney and Kevin held a lavish wedding ceremony on 18th September 2004 but rumours quickly started that it was a “faux ceremony” because Britney’s legal team needed more time to finalise a pre-nuptial agreement before they could marry. However, Britney’s spokesperson denied the rumours, insisting: “This is all ludicrous. They are happily married, and I have no reason to believe otherwise.”

But now according to the dates given on the divorce papers, the couple didn’t officially marry until 6th October - but the delay would have been worth it for Britney as she is considered to have an air-tight pre-nupital agreement.

Divorce attorney Laura Wasser, whose previous clients include Angelina Jolie and Nick Lachey, reportedly drew up the document giving Britney clearly defined custody of their children, Sean and Jayden, and particularly in custody of her money. However, Kevin is rumoured to be considering fighting for custody of their two boys in order to secure a more lucrative settlement.

Sources have said that Britney’s decision to divorce was brought on by “a string of events” rather than a single incident or issue. She documented the date of separation as Monday (6th November), with sources claiming Kevin moved out of the family home two weeks ago but didn’t know in advance that divorce was imminent. According to reports on PerezHilton.com, he got the news by text message while being interviewed for Much Music on Monday and stormed off the set while looking visibly upset.

Meanwhile, a svelte and blonde again Britney made a surprise guest appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman on Monday evening and after the divorce papers were filed yesterday, went ice skating with her manager Larry Rudolph at the Rockefeller Center in New York.
