Britney and Kevin were rumoured to have argued furiously before Kevin’s appearance at the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival when Britney told Kevin about her plans to divorce him and concentrate on resuscitating her career.

However, according to Us Weekly, after a week of fighting via text message, it was a handwritten letter from Kevin on 6th November that finally prompted Britney to file the divorce papers.

A source close to the couple told the magazine: “[the letter] mostly blamed Britney for all their problems.”

The source added that within hours of receiving the communique, Britney told her lawyer, Laura Wasser, to start work on the divorce papers and she signed them just before leaving to make her surprise appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman: “That’s why she looked so happy [on the show]. A weight had been lifted.”

Two days later, the day after the papers were filed, Kevin wrote to Britney on the shower door of his dressing room at the House of Blues in Chicago. The signed message said: “Today I’m a free man, Ladies look out, F*** a wife, Give me my kids Bitch!” (Click the picture for the full message.)
