Brad Pitt has denied that three bodyguards protecting partner Angelina Jolie racially insulted parents and children at an Islamic school in Mumbai while filming A Mighty Heart.

According to onlookers, the school day ended while filming was still taking place and as parents entered the school to collect their children, members of the paparazzi snuck in too, causing a scuffle. Mohammed Yusuf Patni, the secretary of the school’s Parent Teacher Association, told reporters: “Jolie’s bodyguard called one parent, ‘You bl**dy Indian’. Children were pushed around. Mothers were also shoved aside by the guards.”

A second witness, Uday Jhala, said: “The bodyguards were shouting, “F***ing Muslims” and pushing people around”, causing the three bodyguards to be arrested and charged with ‘insult to religion and threatening to kill’. They, Thomas McAdam, Robert Dunn, and Michael Brett, were later released on bail of 25,000 rupees ($556) each.

According to the Times of India, Brad Pitt, who is producing the film, has issued a statement saying: “As a film unit and as individuals, we respect all religions and human beings.”

“We are committed to tolerance and human values … It is unthinkable that anyone would have uttered the things that are being attributed to them. But if any misunderstanding has been caused, we apologize for it.”

This is the third incident involving Angelina Jolie’s bodyguards since the family arrived in India a month ago: previously, an unnamed bodyguard was accused of threatening and throttling a photographer and on another occasion, accused of carrying out a hit-and-run.
