Arnold Schwarzenegger breaks his leg in skiing accident
Arnold Schwarzenegger broke his leg skiing on Saturday and now faces surgery.
The actor turned politician was holidaying with his family at the Sun Valley resort in Idaho when the accident happened - on a ski run named after him.
His spokesperson Julie Soderlund confirmed the accident, adding that no one else was involved and that Arnold is “doing great”.
Arnold fractured his right femur and was scheduled to have non-emergency surgey to repair it this morning. The operation will include inserting a metal rod, cables and screws into his thigh bone to provide additional support for the damaged limb.
The surgery will be performed by Dr Kevin Ehrhart at an undisclosed hospital in the Los Angeles area. Dr Ehrhart told CBS: “I have spoken to the governor several times since the skiing accident occurred and he is very comfortable.”
Arnold is expected to take between six to eight weeks to recover fully but will be able to attend his second inauguration as California state governor on 5th January.
