Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in Costa RicaAngelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have revealed they spent Christmas Day with Colombian refugees in Costa Rica as part of Angelina’s work as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The couple met refugee children and their families on Monday as well as Costa Rican officials.

Angelina said in a statement: “We had a marvelous Christmas Day with the Costa Rican people and the families of the Colombian refugees that we met.”

“My Christmas message to Colombian refugees and to the millions of displaced people in Colombia is that the world has not totally forgotten them.”

Earlier in the day, Angelina described the situation as “the greatest humanitarian tragedy in the Western Hemisphere”: an estimated 500,000 people have fled Columbia after years of conflict, with around 11,500 crossing through Panama into Costa Rica.
