Jennifer Hudson was reportedly caught in the middle of a war between two stylists - Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley and stylist Jessica Paster - ahead of her appearance on the Oscars red carpet on Sunday.

A source told the New York Post’s Page Six: “Jennifer was kind of sponsored by Talley and Vogue. Andre insisted she wear that hideous Oscar De La Renta dress with the awful, awful gold python bolero. Jennifer really didn’t want to, and so Jessica Paster got her a beautiful gold Roberto Cavalli [gown] custom-made. But when Andre found out, he went ballistic.”

“Moments before she left for the show, there was a power struggle and Jennifer ended up putting his outfit on.”

Jennifer changed into the gold dress for the winners photo session and for the after-show parties. She admitted on Today yesterday that she would have selected a different red carpet outfit if she’d had the choice.

• Doctors working with Britney Spears suspect the singer may be suffering from post-partum depression or bipolar disorder rather than substance abuse being the problem. An inside source told TMZ that while there is “no doubt about it, she likes to drink”, doctors believe her alcohol intake is her way of dealing with a bigger problem. Another source told the site that while in rehab, Britney is currently reading Brooke Shields‘ book Down Came the Rain about her own post-partum depression.
• The Los Angeles Police Department are formally investigating James Blunt’s car accident at the weekend and have classed it as a “hit and run” after the singer drove away from the incident. According to witnesses, James drove his black SUV over the leg of a man while driving himself and girlfriend Petra Nemcova away from a party on Friday night. A spokesperson for James blamed the incident on the “paparazzi that were all swarming the car” but added that James is “looking into the matter and will cooperate”.
• While most people seem to be keen to forget about Paris Hilton’s bid of pop stardom, John Legend has revealed he actually liked her music and would like to collaborate with her at some point. He told Star magazine recently: “I bought her single ‘Stars Are Blind’. I thought it was a great song and should have done better even than it did. I’d do a song with her. It would be an interesting experience.”

She might already have A-list friends in the shape of Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes and Jennifer Lopez but Victoria Beckham doesn’t know if she’ll get used to meeting top Hollywood stars on the celebrity circuit in Los Angeles.

She told the Mirror recently: “I was at a party the other day when Tom Hanks came bounding over. He said, ‘I’m so thrilled you and David are coming over. I’m going to get a season ticket to watch LA Galaxy now’.”

“All the time he was talking I was just thinking, ‘It’s Forrest Gump! And he knows who I am!’ I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to that when we move here.”

She added that despite her current frequent appearances at various events or meals, she won’t go out that much when she moves over there in the summer: “I don’t get out much, really. I’m usually with David and the boys.”

“David and I have a few very good friends who are celebrities. But we don’t go out that much. It’s fun now and then to go out for dinner, but am I going to start going to clubs with Britney Spears every night? Possibly not.”

“I have three children, I work hard and when I’m not working I’m at home with the kids.”

Victoria visited her new home city earlier this week for Elton John’s Oscars party on Sunday but also to continue her house-hunting: “David is still in Spain playing for Real Madrid so I have to text him pictures of all the houses.”

“I know his taste really well but I still need back up. Some places look amazing outside but then the decor leaves a lot to be desired. It has to be private and close enough to David’s training ground.

“And there has to be lots of space for the boys. They will probably get the final say.”

• Now that all the Oscars stuff is out of the way, the paparazzi can get back to what they do best: stalking Victoria Beckham around LA. She was spotted househunting in a hat then the hat was removed to unveil a new (since the weekend) hairstyle. But her LA visit fleeting - she left for London from LAX last night.
• Some of Hollywood’s other fashionistas are in Paris - Mischa Barton looked very pulled together (as opposed to her normal vintage boho look) for the Christian Dior Ready-to-Wear show at the Jardin des Tuileries while Mary Kate Olsen wrapped up warm in fur.
• Reese Witherspoon was obviously inspired by the great fashion on show at Sunday’s Oscars to update her own wardrobe: she’s been spotted shopping on both Monday and Tuesday this week.
• Courtney Love should take note - between her dress and her make-up, she looks rather … unfortunate in these pictures from a recent night out.
• Speaking of unfortunate nights out, Paris Hilton got pulled over for driving on a suspended licence. Paris had popped out to buy some DVDs around 10.30pm last night when she was pulled over because she was driving without her headlights turned on. Police then found out about her suspended license and impounded her Bentley.
• Lindsay Lohan might have been shaky at the Soho House post-Oscar party on Sunday but she’s looking in great shape on the set of her new film I Know Who Killed Me.
• Tori Spelling is looking in great shape too - but we’re using “great” in the “big” sense. She’s due to give birth next month.
• And another favourite celebrity offspring - it looks like Violet Affleck, daughter of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, is walking by herself now: she was snapped tottering around a Vancouver park with her mum recently.
• And finally, some swimwear shots - Jennifer Aniston in a bikini for those that like girls, and Matthew McConaughey surfing in shorts for those that like boys.

Anna Nicole Smith’s mother Virgie Arthur met her almost six-month old granddaughter Dannielynn for the first time yesterday.

Virgie was seen weeping as she left the home Anna Nicole shared with Howard K Stern in the Bahamas after meeting the infant.

Virgie received permission to meet Dannielynn as part of the ongoing custody hearing but her lawyer Deborah Rose insists that the visit was not granted by the court itself.

After meeting the child, Virgie flew to Florida to attend a hearing regarding overturning Judge Larry Seidlin’s order that Anna Nicole should be buried in the Bahamas. After Judge Seidlin refused her request for appeal, Virgie has taken the case to the Florida 4th District Court of Appeal and the hearing will begin today, although the three judges assigned to the case have not said when they will announce their verdict.

Virgie’s visit comes just days after Larry Birkhead met the baby he claims is his daughter for the first time at the weekend.

Larry told Access Hollywood that he knew from the moment he first saw a picture of Dannielynn in a magazine that “there’s no doubt” that she is his daughter. He added that despite being listed as the dad on the birth certificate, Howard knows he’s not the father.

According to TMZ, Howard has now all but conceded that Larry is the father but will only cooperate with the paternity case if he is awarded a home owned by Anna Nicole in the Bahamas, a boat she purchased in Florida shortly before her death and some other assets - as well as be Dannielynn’s trustee.

Liev Schreiber has confirmed that he and partner Naomi Watts are expecting a child together.

Rumours about the couple began circulating earlier this month but were denied until fashion house Escada broke the news at the weekend - then Naomi’s bump at Sunday’s Oscars was pretty much undeniable too.

Liev himself though confirmed the news on Late Night With Conan O’Brien on Monday, saying: “I’m going to be a dad. Very exciting!”

He added that Naomi was desperate to show off her bump at the awards ceremony at the weekend: “It’s a strange thing about women. You can take a complete wall-flower, a quiet girl and get them pregnant and then they want to go out all the time! So I gave her grief about going to the Oscars and she said, ‘No, no, it’s a very auspicious thing’ that our ‘embryo’ I guess, was going to be going to the Oscars.”

“I’m trying to stay out of it all. I’m trying not to make any decisions. I find everything I try to do in service of her or the coming baby is wrong. I really don’t even go to my house much anymore.”

He went on to say that while it’s early days in terms of picking a name, he knows the child won’t be named after him: “No, it’s a terrible name. It’s probably the most mis-pronounced name in all of show business. It’s bad enough that I have gone through that for 15 years.”

“There won’t be any Liev juniors. It’s not like George, you can call five kids George. You can’t really call anyone Liev, you shouldn’t call one child that, I don’ t think!”
