Kate Moss and Pete Doherty: spokesperson denies Thai wedding
Kate Moss’s spokesperson has denied the model married Pete Doherty in beach ceremony while on holiday in Thailand.
Reports in the British press claim the couple held a spiritual ceremony near their exclusive villa in the Amanpuri resort in Phuket yesterday. The Buddhist ceremony would not be considered legally binding in the UK.
According to the Sun, the ceremony started around 1.30pm local time and lasted around 30 minutes. A Buddhist priest draped flowers over their shoulders and cupped their hands in prayer, and at the end of the ceremony, sprinkled water over their heads as he pronounced them husband and wife.
The Mirror added that Kate wore a low-cut sparkling silver dress but was barefoot and had her hair tied back and decorated with flowers.
However, Kate’s spokesperson has now denied the ceremony took place: “Contrary to various entirely false media reports, there has not been any kind of marriage ceremony in Thailand. She is just on holiday.”
Kate flew out to Thailand last week and after gaining permission from his probation officer, Pete joined her in the country over the weekend. The couple welcomed in the New Year at an exclusive party at the resort, also attended by the Duchess of York and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
Kate and Pete have been rumoured to be planning to wed since they confirmed their engagement in October. Christmas dates and Kate’s birthday on the 13th of this month have been speculated but a friend has now told the Sun that it looks like they might marry a few days after that, on the 18th of January.
A friend of the model’s told the Sun: “We’ve all been asked to keep that date free but not been told why.”
