Jessica Simpson and John Mayer were spotted holding hands and giggling together while jewellery shopping at the weekend - and then rang in the New Year with a public kissing session.

Despite being spotted together several times over the last few weeks, the couple have denied a romance after an over-hyped attempt fell flat in September.

However, according to the New York Port, the two spent Saturday morning shopping together and were spotted at the jewellery counter in Barney’s in the city. Onlookers report they were laughing and dancing around together in front of the counter and Jessica shrieked with delight and high-fived John when he bought her one of the items as a present.

An onlooker told the newspaper: “They looked very happy together. They were having fun and joking around.”

By Sunday evening, they were “full-on making out” at Christina Aguilera’s New Year’s Eve party at the Hudson Hotel. An onlooker told the newspaper: “He was scratching her back, they were kissing, it wasn’t subtle.”
