Whitney Houston auctions off clothes and tour items
Hundreds of Whitney Houston’s personal items are being auctioned off by a storage facility after they claimed she hasn’t paid her bills since 2005.
Whitney’s company Nippy Inc. reportedly owes Speed of Sound in New Jersey $150,000 in unpaid bills and is planning to recoup the money by selling the items in their possession.
Items to be auctioned next week include clothes, outfits from her 1999 tour, musical items including a $290,000 grand piano, and various equipment related to the tour including sound equipment and a forklift truck.
Auctioneer Steve Newmark explained: “It’s a warehouse full of stuff from her shows. There’s some pretty personal stuff in there. Even her underwear is in there. I was marveling at the waist of some of these clothes. They were pretty small. The auction is open to the public, but only for qualified buyers. We’re probably going to combine a lot of the individual items, like the costumes. It’s not for a teenage fan hoping to buy one of her trinkets.”
However Whitney’s publicist Nancy Seltzer insists that Whitney has agreed to the sale and that it’s no big deal: “Many artists get rid of the old stage equipment and costuming they don’t need any more. That is what is happening.”
Last year, Whitney reportedly foreited a house on her New Jersey property and her Atlanta home after failing to make due mortgage payments on the residences.
