Nicole Richie reportedly believes that the various trials and tribulations she suffered in 2006 were the result of someone playing a “hex” on her social circle.

According to Life & Style magazine, Nicole hired a shaman to perform a $1000 spiritual cleansing of her West Hollywood home after her arrest for ‘driving under the influence‘ in December. In addition to the arrest, Nicole broke up from her on-off fiance Adam Goldstein (aka DJ AM) last year, was constantly targeted with stories about her weight and her cat nearly died after falling from her 10th floor balcony.

A source told the magazine the shaman chanted, danced and burned sage around Nicole’s home and added “she’s very superstitious and believes in this stuff. It’s a very personal thing for Nicole.”
