Alicia Keys: it’s important for musicians to speak out about politics
Alicia Keys thinks it’s a shame that many of today’s popstars and musicians feel they can’t speak their mind about political issues for fear of ruining their career.
Alicia has proudly taken part in anti-war campaigns and has been an active fundraiser for a number of AIDS charities and she said recently: “I think music and socialism and politics have always gone hand in hand.”
“As artists we used to be way more instrumental in providing a soundtrack to the heartbeat of what’s going on in the world.”
“We all don’t have to think the same thing, but it’s important to state what we think. There is such a fear of termination of one’s career if they have any intelligent thought about politics and that’s messed up.”

But why would you win it ? You aren’t celeb. Cameron talks about environmental issues in her own country, she knows america pollutes the world more than a lot of other countries, she won this year! Robin Williams also took the mickey out of president bush and the invasion of Iraq quite often on tv, he won as well. I think people who voted don’t shy away from celebs who speak their minds. They might have won because they spoke their minds about important issues?

I saw diaz’s show tripping. It was good. I’m glad she won it. I think people who get enjoyment out of slagging other people off are bad news.

My girls and I voted last year and I’m a social worker. I work with young people who have been sexually abused. I guess I don’t really care about anything else except myself?
