Pete DohertyThe magistrate overseeing Pete Doherty’s supervision order has praised him for making “great efforts” in his attempts to move away from his drug addictions.

Pete appeared at the Thames Magistrates’ Court in London yesterday for a review session and District Judge Jane McIvor said she was pleased with his progress. She added: “It’s a long process and there is another nine months to go. This is more optimistic but we cannot take the pressure off. It takes day-to-day effort.”

Speaking to reporters on leaving court, Pete said: “It’s like she said, really it’s just time. For the first time I am actually turning up for appointments in a coherent state. For them, it’s a big step.”

“It’s just a really positive time for me at the moment.”

Pete was arrested at the weekend for suspicion of joy riding in a stolen car but has yet to be formally charged.
