Supermodel Gisele Bündchen thinks parents - and their genes - should be blamed for the current trend of incredibly skinny models rather than shunting all the blame onto the fashion industry.

Speaking to O Globo newspaper in her native Brazil, she said: “I never suffered from [anorexia] because I had a very strong family base. Parents are responsible, not the fashion industry.”

“Everybody knows that the norm in fashion is thin. But excuse me, there are people born with the right genes for this profession.”

She added that she was bullied for her height and slight physique before she became a model but “in fashion I felt accepted”

“[But] I never felt lonely because I always relied on my family.”
