Paris Hilton has entered a “no contest” plea following her arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol last September.

Paris’ lawyers Howard Weitzman and Shawn Chapman Holley entered the plea for the heiress at Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday. Paris was not in court herself but Judge Michael Sauer placed her on 36 months of probation and fined her $390 (which will total $1450 with additional penalties) as well as ordering her to attend an alcohol education programme.

She has also been given the option to drop her probation period down to 24 months if she completes 40 hours of community service.

Paris’ spokesperson Elliot Mintz said he had spoken to the socialite after the case was finalised and “she told me that she was happy the matter is over.”

Paris claims to have only drunk one margarita on the evening in question but had not eaten or slept adequately over the previous night and day. A “no contest plea” is not an admission of guilt but is equivalent to a guilty plea for determining sentencing.
