Paul McCartney and Heather Mills are both reportedly “war weary” about their ongoing divorce but are close to making a final settlement.

A source told the Mirror that lawyers for both parties have been in a series of “intense and heightened” talks recently and are hoping to finalise the agreement within a month, with a payment package worth £25million for Heather being mentioned.

An inside legal source told the newspaper: “It isn’t simply a matter of him making an offer and it being accepted. There are other issues at stake.”

“But they are almost there. The channels of communication have opened up significantly in the last week or so. There have been intense and heightened conversations.

“It is the first time a deal has been mentioned and both sides hope a settlement will be formally reached in the next month.”

“Unless there is a major hiccup, this will not be going to court.”

A source close to Paul added that Paul is glad that there is unlikely to be a public fight: “He is absolutely determined to keep his private life hidden from public scrutiny. The divorce has been dragging on nine months. There’s war weariness creeping in.”

Heather is also said to be feeling “very depressed” at the moment regarding the proceedings.

The couple separated in June last year after four years of marriage.
