Anna Nicole Smith on Tuesday: “life is killing me”
Anna Nicole Smith reportedly told a friend “life is killing me” less than two days before her death this week.
The friend told the News of the World that they spoke to Anna Nicole on Tuesday: “Anna was in a terrible state. She said, ‘I’ve given up - I can’t go on.’”
“You always knew with Anna that life was never simple. But this time she seemed different. And I was really afraid for her.”
“I kept saying, ‘Anna, babe, you are not going to do anything stupid. Anna, please be careful.’ She said, ‘I will, honey, I will’. But I was seriously worried she didn’t mean it this time. She’d been self-destructing for years with all the drugs she was taking. She wanted to die.”
The friend added Anna Nicole was taking anti-depressants and painkillers although no pills or tablets were found in her stomach at the time of death: “Anna took drugs like most people drank water - it was just a normal thing for her. She was like a walking medicine chest. She had it all rattling around in her purse.”
“She took the anti-depressants just so she could get up in a morning and she didn’t always take them according to the directions. She’d just slug a couple down if she was getting anxious. And she had a lot to be anxious about.”
“Things had really started to pile down on top of her and physically her body had begun to act strangely. She’d complained of flushes and said her heart was all over the place - racing and then slowing. The doctors told her to stop taking the drugs to see if that stabilised things. She didn’t though. She couldn’t cope without them.”
“In the last few weeks she’d become very withdrawn and quiet - almost childlike. She told me time and again that even though she had a new-born baby she had nothing to live for. She kept saying,‘What is there for me? What is the point of going on?’ I remember saying, ‘Come on - what about your baby? She needs you more than ever.’ Anna said, ‘I know, I know. But it’s hard’.”
“I don’t know if Anna committed suicide, but I do know that she wanted to die. I think maybe her body just said, ‘I’ve had enough’.”
Anna Nicole’s mother Virgie Arthur has also spoken out about Anna Nicole’s use of prescription drugs: “I tried to warn her about drugs and the people she hung around with. But she didn’t listen. She was too drugged up.”
“The last interview I saw of her, she was looking so wasted. I think she had too many drugs, just like Danny.”
After carrying out an autopsy on Anna Nicole’s body on Friday, medical examiner Dr Joshua Perper has not ruled out that drugs played a part in Anna Nicole’s death but he has also recognised that she reportedly had felt ill earlier in the week with “stomach flu”.
An inside source from the Seminole Hard Rock and Casino Hotel revealed that Anna Nicole had experienced headaches, nausea and flu-like symptoms since arriving in Florida on Monday and according to Access Hollywood she had taken a “children’s sedative” to level herself.
Another onlooker at the hotel added: “She just looked out of it. She was so unsteady on her feet she had to hold on to [Howard K Stern]. Everything looked a struggle for her.”
