Kate Winslet to sue over diet doctor claims
Kate Winslet is set to sue Grazia magazine after they claimed she visited a clinic in California to help her lose weight.
She told Radio 1 that she was upset when the magazine claimed she had visited the Chinese Healing Institute in Santa Monica to help her lose weight as well as to help with neck pain: “I’m very upset, it’s categorically untrue, it’s a complete lie.”
“I don’t want people thinking that I would ever go to a diet doctor. I never have done, and I never will.”
“I know I am a role model to young women, it’s a role I take very very seriously. I would never want anyone to think I was a hypocrite in doing something like going to a diet doctor.”
On a related note, she also told Good Housekeeping recently that she is worried about the effect ’size zero’ celebrities are having on women: “It seems to me that [Hollywood] is breeding a whole new generation of anorexics. I look at people and I want to say ‘Look, it’s alright you can eat something’.”
“I think I have become something of a role model because I came out and said: ‘Hey, I’ve got a normal shape’… It’s important for me to stand by the fact that I eat real food and am not on a diet everyday.”
“I just don’t worry about my weight anymore. I notice it, if I’ve enjoyed a Christmas vacation and I have had too many glasses of champagne or too many canapes. But I don’t avoid anything and I am not a fanatic.”
