Kenny Chesney has revealed he and Renee Zellweger made the wrong decision in citing “fraud” as the reason for their split after just four months of marriage because it caused too much speculation.

Speaking about their short 2005 marriage recently, Kenny said: “The only fraud that was committed was me thinking that I knew what it was like… that I really understood what it was like to be married, and I really didn’t.”

“We thought the least harmful [reason to chose on their annulment papers] was fraud because it [is] kind of broad… doesn’t specify [anything]. And boy… we were wrong!”

As Renee was the one to file the papers, speculation grew around what ‘fraud’ Kenny committed and he was frequently rumoured to be gay: “It’s not true. Period. Maybe I should have come out and said, ‘No, I’m not [gay]’ but I didn’t want to draw any more attention to it. I didn’t have to prove to anybody that I wasn’t.”

Renee later issued a statement explaining it was just legal language and not a reflection on Kenny’s character.
