Joss StoneJoss Stone blames her “confused” half-Devonish/half-Californian accent on her busy working life.

Joss, who surprised viewers with her new accent at last week’s Brit Awards, told Chris Moyles’ Radio 1 breakfast show on Thursday: “I’m confused I guess. I don’t want people to think I’ve got American-speaking lessons. It’s not a choice, honey.”

“I know people work hard. They wake up early, go to work and come home. I don’t do that, it doesn’t happen.”

“[I’m] flying round the world every three minutes. I don’t have any time to hang out with anybody.”

But all that hard work doesn’t mean she’s completely comfortable with her fame: “I like to walk around the stage when I sing [because] I get nervous. I go to the loo about 1,000 times before a gig.”

She added that in many ways, celebrities have to give up their “health and happiness” for their fame: “You’ve just puked, you feel fat. It’s one of those days. Imagine that, and add people outside your home.”
