Despite learning his acting trade on the stage, Hugh Grant has admitted he isn’t a fan of going to the theatre.

He said recently: “I’ve done a lot of plays and they’re quite fun - it’s watching a play that’s utter misery.”

“That’s why I couldn’t really justify going on acting in the theatre because I just knew that these poor b**tards had paid a lot of money and were having a horrible time sitting out there watching.”

“Let’s be honest, one in 50 visits to the theatre is actually fun. The other 49 times, you’re thinking: ‘bring on my gin and tonic in the intermission.’”
