Kate Moss and Pete DohertyKate Moss and Pete Doherty were asked to leave the NME Awards early last night after a series of odd incidents including the “theft” of a spoon.

A source at the event noted that when the couple took to the red carpet together: “Kate was delighted to be there but Pete seemed a bit distracted. He appeared a bit unsteady on his feet and was quite quiet early on.”

Onlookers then report the couple had “a bit of a row” and a member of the security team at the event at the Hammersmith Palais saw Pete “pick up a spoon off the table and go towards the toilets.”

Afraid that Pete would put the spoon for nefarious uses, the security intercepted him and guided him away. Sources differ as to whether Kate was trying to go to the toilet along with Pete and his spoon but an inside source told the Sun that Kate was in there when the organisers were looking for her so she could present her friends Primal Scream with the “Godlike Genius” award: “We were looking for Kate so she could present the award and found her in the toilets looking absolutely slaughtered.”

Another source told the NME that shortly afterwards, around 9pm: “they were both caught in a dark alleyway at the back of the building. So we got their own security guards to put them in a car and take them home.”

Earlier in the night, Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie let slip that despite their denials and rumours, Kate and Pete are planning to marry. According to the Daily Mail, he said: “Trust me, when they do it I’ll be there. She’s only just asked me to come to the wedding.”

“They haven’t tied the knot yet, so I’m on call whenever they want me. At the drop of a hat I’ll be there, even if it means cancelling a festival gig in summer.”

The Gossip’s Beth Ditto won’t be expecting an invite though. According to the Mirror, Beth took the opportunity to again attack Kate over her nomination - and winning - of the Sexiest Female award at the ceremony.

Beth said: “I don’t even know why she’s here. Just because she’s sleeping with a singer and does a few backing vocals she thinks she’s it. I thought the NME had far more integrity than that”.
