Vietnam’s International Adoption Agency has confirmed earlier rumours that Angelina Jolie has filed papers to adopt a child from within the country.

The agency’s director Vu Duc Long said earlier today that a US adoption agency “filed the papers this week” on behalf of Angelina and that she applied to adopt as a single parent.

He said: “we consider her like any other American who wants to adopt children from Vietnam.”

“She is not yet married so the file was from her individually. It will take a few months for us to consider this.”

Angelina and partner Brad Pitt sparked rumours that they were planning to adopt a child from Vietnam after visiting the Tam Binh orphanage on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City in November.

The director of the orphanage, Nguyen Van Trung, has declined to comment on the new developments but said he is awaiting the papers from the International Adoption Agency.
