Pete Doherty’s former Libertines bandmate Carl Barat has confirmed that the two have patched up their differences to such an extent that Pete has asked Carl to be his best man at Pete’s (maybe) forthcoming wedding to Kate Moss.

The pair fell out in 2003 after Pete’s drug use escalated and Pete was jailed for six months for burgling Carl’s flat. Pete was then kicked out of the band because his drug use caused him to be so unreliable.

However, now Carl has revealed the two are friends again: “We had a heart-to-heart the other day and at the end of the conversation, Pete asked me if I’d be up for being his best man.”

“At first I thought he was joking. But he told me he and Kate were desperate to marry and his offer was deadly serious.”

“I was shocked but delighted. “I’m going to do a speech and Pete suggested I do a reading, something like Chekhov.”

“I’m really touched that after all we’ve been through together we could finally put it all behind us and move on.”

“I still really worry about him. But he told me he’s desperate to give up for the sake of Kate, who he calls ‘the most beautiful woman in Britain’.”

At the NME Awards last week, Kate’s friend Bobby Gillespie hinted that the couple are planning a summer wedding while Pete himself said they’ll marry as soon as he can freely leave the UK.
