Amy Winehouse split from boyfriend Alex Claire this week after a nine-month relationship - and consoled herself by getting very drunk.

Amy was due to perform at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London on Thursday and Friday but cancelled the gigs after the split. She was spotted buying wine at her local supermarket in Camden on Thursday then drinking partying in West London later that evening.

An onlooker at the supermarket revealed: “Her eyes were glazed over and we thought it was because she was drunk. When we heard about the split we realised she could have been crying.”

Later on, she was helped into hotel K-West’s bar by two minders and a source told the Mirror: “Amy staggered all over the place, looking really upset. Her friend was saying Amy had split up with her boyfriend Alex and had been drinking since the night before.”

A message regarding the canceled concerts appeared on her website on Friday, reading: “Amy would like to apologise to her fans… and hopes they understand.”

Amy’s dad Mitch has said he believes that the split from Alex might finally push Amy into some sort of treatment programme - but for exhaustion not alcohol addiction.

He told the Sunday Mirror that her voice is “close to collapse” after her recent career surge: “I’m not ruling out rehab. Amy needs a break.”

“They don’t send you to rehab just because you’ve broken up with someone. There are other things. Amy needs a rest. Her workload is absolutely manic.”

“She’s an emotional girl. Her schedule has caused problems with Alex. He wants to see her. I don’t know if that’s the reason for the break-up - but wouldn’t you want to see your boyfriend now and again?”

“[Her] bosses are aware of the problem.”
