Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown has given birth to a baby girl in Santa Monica, California.

Mel was taken to hospital after her waters broke around 5.30pm local time and the baby girl was born just after midnight this morning.

A spokesperson for Mel confirmed the birth, adding: “The baby is completely healthy with a good head of hair. Mother and baby are now resting.”

“No name has been decided on as yet, and she is purely known as Baby Brown.”

Mel is now expected to launch a paternity case against ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy. Mel claims Eddie is the father after the couple dated for several months last year but Eddie is insisting on DNA testing.

Mel already has an eight year old daughter, Phoenix Chi, from her previous marriage to Jimmy Gulzar.
