Salma Hayek: I face prejudice in both Mexico and the US
Salma Hayek has revealed she faced prejudice in her native Mexico because of her looks - and has faced more discrimination since moving to the US because of her Hispanic background.
She told Easy Living magazine recently: “I have had my struggles. I am 5ft 2in and in Mexico it was very important to be tall.”
“I grew up in a world where beauty was not only tall, it was white and blonde with blue eyes. And I’m dark, have brown eyes and brown hair and I’m short.”
“People used to say that the short thing was a deformity. I was really upset about my height and then one day I said, ‘Who decided that it’s better to be tall? Am I less healthy? Am I less capable?’”
“Mexicans are not the most welcome outsiders in America. I know the only reason I haven’t had good parts is because I am Latin.”
Salma recently confirmed that she and fiance Francois-Henri Pinault are expecting their first child together later this year.

It’s a sad day when Selma Hayek doesn’t feel she fits anyone’s definition of beautiful.

This doesn’t really make sense. In Mexico, the standard of beauty was tall, blonde, and blue-eyed?!

Not all mexicans are short and dark….there are many tall blondes with blue or green eyes. The stereotype of what a mexican looks like is very off. Why don’t you take a trip to Guadalajara or Monterrey and you will see! I think your eyes will be WIDE open when you see the beauty that exists in Mexico.
