Madonna returning to Malawi for a sister for David, claims his grandmother
The biological grandmother of Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s adopted son David has said charity workers have told her the star is planning to adopt another child.
Madonna and son David are thought to have flown to Malawi this weekend so Madonna can continue her charity work with the Raising Malawi and possibly meet David’s biological father Yohane Banda - but rumours are circulating that she is also hoping to repair her reputation in the country ahead of adopting another child.
Athnette Mwale, David’s paternal grandmother, is quoted as saying that staff from David’s orphanage told her Madonna “would return [to Malawi] for another child very soon”.
“I have prayed to God that my boy will have a sister to play with from his own country. When the adoption people came to speak to Yohane about David they said Madonna would give him the best life in the world. And they promised that she would find him a sister, another orphan from Malawi.”
Yohane himself has said he hasn’t heard anything official about Madonna’s visit or that she is planning to let him see his son. He is quoted in the Daily Mail as saying: “Officially I have not heard anything. There has been no communication whatsoever but I have heard the rumours and I get the feeling that she might be coming.”
“I am excited. I hope that there will be an opportunity for me to see my son. I understand that she is a busy person but if there is an opportunity, I would appreciate it if she could tell me how my son is doing, which has not been the case so far.”
Madonna’s publicist Liz Rosenberg denied the new adoption rumours earlier in the week.
