Joss Stone has revealed she abandoned her “no shoes” rule for on-stage appearances when the late James Brown asked her to wear footwear for a gig.

Joss usually refuses to wear shoes because she likes the stability of her own feet: “I get nervous, I don’t want to fall over.”

“[James Brown] is the only man I ever wore shoes for on stage.”

“I loved him. James was like the nicest person in the world. One time he called me in to say how proud he was.”

James died at Christmas at the Emory Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
