Melanie Brown with daughter AngelMelanie Brown has said ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy was “over the moon” when she found out she was pregnant, which made his subsequent rejection of the child even harder to bear.

The former Spice Girl told OK magazine this week that even though the pair hadn’t be dating long, they had been making plans for the future: “We had talked about having a family and getting married. We started talking about whether we should buy a house together, where we could be alone together.”

Melanie also revealed that she was stunned about the way Eddie informed her their relationship was over - by announcing it, and his demand for a paternity test, during a TV interview: “I came to see my mum for a few days as I wanted to see her in person. Then I got a flight home, landed and there is a whole sea of photographers. There were people shouting about a DNA test. I was in complete shock.”

“I tried to call Eddie and couldn’t get through. Then I got through and he said he would call me back and that was it. He never called back. I literally couldn’t understand what was happening.”

“I was shocked and then I felt a bit disgusted. I don’t feel humiliated. I think the only person who has humiliated themselves is Eddie. If he wants to do a Dna test, then do it. I am not saying we can’t do it, I’m sitting here saying: ‘Are you ready?’ Step up to the plate and be responsible. I have no doubt that this is Eddie’s baby.”

“I look at the baby and she has his big smile and dimples. She has taken the best bits of both of us.”

She added that despite his behaviour, she still cares for him: “I will always love him. We were soul mates. We just melted together. I can’t just turn off love like that.”

“In my fantasy world this never would have happened and we would have been living happy ever after. But that’s not reality and I don’t know what the future holds.”

“I have been disappointed and I don’t know how anybody can treat another person like that. I just remember his spirit and the way we were together.”
