Hugh Grant arrested after assault on photographer

Hugh Grant has been arrested and bailed over the assault of a paparazzo near his home in west London yesterday.

Photographer Ian Whittaker said after yesterday’s incident: “I said: ‘Give us a smile please’, and he just looked really angry. I walked backwards and he walked after me. He was effing and blinding at me and then he just started kicking me. He kicked me hard three or four times then kneed me in the groin.”

“He asked if I had a girlfriend or kids and I said I had two. He said ‘I hope they die of f**king cancer’. I’m determined to see this through to the end because of what he said.”

According to Whittaker, Hugh then threw a tub of baked beans at him, prompting the snapper to call the police.

When asked about the incident, a police spokesperson refused to identify Hugh by name but confirmed that a 46 year old man had been arrested over the alleged assault and was bailed to return to the police station in Kensington next month.
