Peter Andre has left hospital after a 12 night stay for meningitis.

He said he was “over the moon” to be leaving the hospital but has been warned that he has to be monitored around the clock during the next stage of his recovery.

A source told the Sun that Peter took his first steps in three weeks yesterday as he left the hospital with wife Katie Price at his side: “Inside the hospital, a porter used a wheelchair, but when he got to the entrance Peter insisted on walking.”

“It was also the first time he has been taken off a drip since he was rushed to hospital. It is very encouraging but he is still weak as a kitten.”

His spokesperson yesterday confirmed that Peter has left the hospital but not completely out of the woods just yet: “He has been allowed to come home to recover and carry on with his medication.”

“He needs to be left alone with his family but hopefully he’s over the worst.”

A second source close to the couple told the Daily Star: “It’s such a relief for Katie now Pete’s back home. She was frantic with worry.”

Peter was rushed to hospital last week for tests - including brain scans and a lumbar puncture - after a fortnight of stomach complaints and headaches following the couple’s promotional trip to Los Angeles earlier last month.
